Are You Dating Too Much?

As the old adage goes, you’re never going to find Prince Charming sitting on the couch in your pajamas, eating Ben and Jerry’s chocolate ice cream and reading Cathy comics (yes, that’s not an old adage, but the image works, right?). You need to get out there and start meeting people! But in today’s ever connected world, meeting people is easier than ever, which means it’s not unheard of for a woman to go on four dates a week.

Singles today have more options than ever before to meet potential boyfriends or girlfriends. Coffee shops, bars, set-ups, singles events and school are all prime methods of mate-meeting. But it’s no secret that the hundreds of online dating sites like, Ok cupid and eHarmony, offer up thousands of dating prospects, all with the click of a button.

So what happens when you take advantage of technology and schedule ten dates a week? Experts say that after about 2-3 different dates a week, your chances of finding a mate might actually decrease. While you may think you’re increasing your odds by meeting as many men as possible, you could very well be shooting yourself in the foot. Why is this? First, if you’re going on too many a dates a week, you’re not giving yourself time to process the person you’ve just met, which is not fair to you or him. There’s a good chance you won’t be fully invested in making the most out of your date or your mind may be elsewhere.

Furthermore, one of the things that makes you most attractive to a guy is the fact that you have your own life, independent of him. When you schedule so many dates that you no longer have time for yourself, part of your appeal is lost. What’s more, this is probably not even something tangible that either you or he can pick up on. So do yourself a favor and keep your dates to 2-3 per week and always make sure to schedule time for your friends, activities and most importantly, you!
